Travels, UFC 119 and Niners/Chiefs Game

It's been a whirlwind couple weeks of travel for me. Since I started out my new project in SoCal, I have spent weekends in Indianapolis for the Niners @ Colts pre-season game, Chicago for a BJJ Competition, Boston for UFC 118, Hollywood for a relaxing weekend, Oklahoma for the Sooners/Noles FB game and OU Wrestling Golf Outing, Baltimore for the Yanks/Orioles series and finally this past weekend which included Indy for UFC 119 and Kansas City for the Niners @ Chiefs debacle.

I flew in to Chicago Thursday night from LAX. First class on American Airlines. Cabbed it to downtown, dropped my bags off at the hotel and went to meet Montster and Valko for some drinks. On the way, picked up my friend Elizabeth (who I had never met before but talked to for the past 3 years).  Fun night, nothing crazy, good friends.

Weigh-ins
Me @ Ari Shaffir
Got up early Friday and we started our journey from Chicago to Indianapolis. Arrived in Indy just in time for UFC 119 weigh-ins.  Nothing too special, been to them 6 or 7 times before. Later that night, a group of us went to see Ari Shaffir (@arishaffir) and Joe Rogan (@joerogan). Joe Rogan was funny, but Ari Shaffir was HILARIOUS. I was literally in stitches for the 20 minutes he was on stage. He is now my 2nd favorite white Jewish comedian (behind Robin Williams).  Not much else to report from the night.

Saturday we got up and went to watch Monte's son play pop-warner football. I think that is a really big deal when it comes to friendships. I think it takes a lot to introduce someone to your really close family. It shows that you are opening your life up to the person and you trust them enough. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't introduce just anyone to my nieces and nephew (closest thing I have to kids right now). After football we headed back and waited for the rest of the guys to get down from Indy. We took a limo to and from the fights - probably one of the better ideas we had this past weekend.

See Me?
The seats we had at the fights were possibly the best I have ever had. We were literally the 1st row of the first level (elevated over the floor seats) right next to the tunnel where the fighters walked out. I can't decide if these seats are better or not than the ones we had in Memphis (middle octagon, 1/2 way up the first section). Lackluster card to say the least, but I came out ahead on my bets.

Guys in Indy
Fights ended and we headed back to Broad Ripple to do some partying. Went to some bars, had a penis drawing contest with some married/engaged girls, went to the hookah bar, late night burritos then finally caught a cab back to Casa de Monte to pack my clothes and head to the airport at 5am.

Niners @ Chiefs (Arrowhead)
Hopped on a plane from Indy to KC to watch the Niners take of the Chiefs in what planned to be a competitive game. A friend picked me up from the airport and we headed to tailgate with some of her co-workers. The game sucked but the company was good...except for the guy sitting below us that preceded to high-five everyone around me every time the Chiefs got a first down. He and his St. Louis Rams hat sure showed me. Up at 4:30am to head to the airport to head back to LA for work.

Overall one of the better weekends of 2010 for me. UFC119, Niners FB game and great company all around. Now the internal debate begins... Heading to Colorado with Grice (@mattgricemma) for WEC 51 Thursday, but I can't decide if I want to go home as planned or change my flight and go to Dallas for OU/TX.

Thanks for reading.
